See the Little Brown Girls....

On January 20th, Martin Luther King Day, The Sister Scribes returned to La Mama, etc. on Poetry Electric Night!! An evening of poetry, music, songs and stories that reflect the "Dream of MLK" and the reality of today's USA.

Our Special Guest was Opera singer Goldee Greene. ( WE need a photo of her!!)
 She did a special tribute to singer Marion Anderson.



Women of the Struggle and their music
We celebrated with the music of our  favorite "Brown Girl" Nina Simone.


As a part of our tribute to the "Women of the Struggle"
  Verna Hampton wrote a poem about Fanny Lou Hamer called "Fanny Lou, Look at You!"
Melissa Murray wrote a poem called  "Tupelo", a story of woman traveling from Tupelo, MS to the March of Washington in 1963 just to see Mahalia Jackson
