See the Little Brown Girls....

On January 20th, Martin Luther King Day, The Sister Scribes returned to La Mama, etc. on Poetry Electric Night!! An evening of poetry, music, songs and stories that reflect the "Dream of MLK" and the reality of today's USA.

  Verna Hampton wrote a poem about Fanny Lou Hamer called "Fanny Lou, Look at You!"
Melissa Murray wrote a poem called  "Tupelo", a story of woman traveling from Tupelo, MS to the March of Washington in 1963 just to see Mahalia Jackson

They did what??



On May 4th, 4 Sister Scribers journeyed to New Rochelle for their first official performance outside of NYC. Thanks to Incoming Tide Productions these fierce sisters made a splash, tackling identity, social issues, family matters and love of course. And special thanks to Producer Eric Woodlin for making this possible.

Sister Scribes is a group of talented female artists based in New York City, began performing at La Mama E.T.C. with Poetry Electric, curated by William Electric Black. The Sister Scribes are now touring the metro area with poetry, creating an exciting entertainment experience. Don't miss the powerful work of these women word smiths!
